Located north of Fort Lauderdale, the city of Pompano is above all a vacation spot preferred for its miles of beaches and a wide variety of water activities. Its name taken from a fish found in the waters of the Atlantic is a tribute to the marine world’s importance to the economy and culture of the municipality. You don’t name a city after a fish without a reason! Founded in 1900, the city experienced significant population growth around that time. Its nearly 100,000 residents were drawn by the lure of the Gold Coast whose waters are softened by the Gulf Stream.
As you can see, Pompano is a paradise for fishing enthusiasts. Beginning at sunrise every day, Pompano Municipal Pier brings together fishermen of all types. Set yourself up on this ideally located pier, and you might not leave empty handed!
For the more adventurous, deep sea fishing will satisfy your adventurous needs. In this city known as the “Swordfish capital of the world”, hold on to your fishing rod! Pompano Beach offers something that will change any vacationing students’ opinion of school: the “Waterski and Wakeboard School”. This school—where every student is serious about doing homework!—offers workshops and water sports courses given by professionals. You will become a pro after only a few sessions, learning tricks from the “Wakeboard” world champion!
Pompano artists have a venue where they can express themselves freely while Pompano Beach Arts promotes music, theatre, photography and the visual arts. Producing exhibitions and concerts, the organization inspires the city culturally; after all, it’s not all about the beach!
Pompano Beach Arts also invests in the reputation of the city, based solely on its waterfront; a streaming video system, accessible on the web, records beach activities. So you can watch Pompano Beach at any time of day or night: it might even be enough to get through the toughest winters!
Finally, those who prefer dry land will be thrilled with golf courses that overlook the beach. With such an incredible view, you don’t have to be an experienced player to enjoy your eighteen holes.
Pompano Beach offers activities for all tastes. Less busy than Miami or Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach holds onto its small community spirit; it’s a place where everyone knows your name.
