While eels, sharks and sting rays are the headliners, the Florida Aquarium is much more than a giant aquarium! This architectural landmark in Tampa has an 82-foot-high glass dome, 807,293 square feet of exhibition space and more than 20,000 aquatic plants and animals native to Florida, but also from all over the world. Besides swimming with sharks, sea turtles, eels and groupers, you can visit the Florida Aquarium Coral Reef Gallery, a scenic reservoir that gives the illusion of venturing into the ocean depths. You will see all kinds of coral and tropical fish including rare leafy sea dragons from Australia.
The Coral Reef Gallery’s beautiful South African black penguins make daily appearances. This tunnel has a dark cave home to marine life usually only only seen at night. You can also observe otters and crocodiles in their natural habitat. Free-flying birds and a giant Pacific octopus are just a few of the surprises that await you at the Florida Aquarium!
